Understanding the WTA Wuhan Open Tennis Tournament
This will be the 7th edition of the women’s Wuhan Open event, as the tournament made its debut in 2014 but got canceled in the last four years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. There are 64 players in the tournament, and the top eight seeds will start from the round of 32. The event runs with the normal format of single-elimination matches until we get a winner in the end.
Wuhan Open History & Court Specifics
Aryna Sabalenka has won the last two Wuhan Open editions, and she is tied for the most titles here (2) with Petra Kvitova. Venus Williams and Caroline Garcia won one title each in Wuhan as well. The event has gained a lot of value in the Asian swing on the tennis calendar this year, and it is expected to continue as a WTA 1000 tournament from now on.
The surface of the Optics Valley International Tennis Center is pretty similar to the one in Beijing. The event will be played on hard outdoor courts, which is more preferably for players who want fast-paced matches, as the ball is much faster on hard courts than it is on clay. Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, and Jessica Pegula had the most success on hard surfaces this year.

WTA 2024 Wuhan Open Odds
Here’s a look at the 2024 tennis Wuhan Open odds to win the women’s event from the best betting apps in China:
The three-time Grand Slam champion, Aryna Sabalenka, is the clear favorite to win the Wuhan Open this year. She will be very close to climbing up the live WTA rankings to the No. 1 spot with a win. Coco Gauff is coming off a great event in Beijing, having won the China Open event over Karolina Muchova this Sunday. The American player will be trying to win her second event in China in a row, but her draw isn’t the easiest.
Karolina Muchova had an excellent tournament in Beijing last week, but she lost pretty easily to Gauff in the final. She has won 11 of her last 13 matches, having reached the US Open semifinals as well before that. Qinwen Zheng is looking to win her second-ever title on home soil, while Jessica Pegula will try to bounce back after getting knocked out of the China Open round of 16.
Women’s Wuhan Open 2024 Predictions
Aryna Sabalenka to Win Outright @ 3.25 (9/4)
1 (50%)
(50%) 1
Aryna Sabalenka has some of the best betting odds for tennis in this tournament, as she is well-rested after getting knocked out of the China Open quarterfinals last Friday, while the other two favorites, Coco Gauff and Karolina Muchova, had to play two more matches after reaching the final. Sabalenka is the two-time Wuhan Open champion, so she has a lot of points to defend in this tournament and will play with extra motivation.
Sabalenka has won 15 of her last 16 matches in all competitions, so she is the most in-form female tennis player in the world right now. Aryna has one of the easiest draws in this tournament, so her winning chances are high.
Marta Kostyuk to Beat Elina Avanesyan in Straight Sets 2:0 @ 1.85 (17/20)
2 (100%)
0
Marta Kostyuk and Elina Avanesyan have faced each other only once, and the Ukrainian player won that match. Avanesyan has only three wins against top-20 players this year, so this first-round matchup will be a tough task for her. Kostyuk is on another level right now and has more experience than Avanesyan. The Ukrainian player won 15 of her last 21 matches on hard surfaces, while Elina lost three of her last five and isn’t in good form, so we expect Marta to win in straight sets.
