There’s no denying it’s been a dry patch for Shaun Murphy on the World Snooker Tour of late. In fact, one needs to wind back the clock to around this time last year, for the last time Murphy put up any results of note.
However, the Englishman does have a strong history at the Welsh Open and thrives classically around this time of the year. Last February, Murphy not only made a run to the Welsh Open final but also went on to win the Players Championship the week after. His appearance in the Welsh Open final was the third time the 41-year-old has made it deep at the event, winning in 2020 and finishing runner-up in 2006.
We say it will all fall into place once again for Murphy in 2024, with the Englishman going all the way for his first title in 12 months, delivering a hefty payday.

Just when he wins the World Grand Prix, it looks like all of the mental health issues and last-minute withdrawals are a thing of the past… he goes and withdraws from the German Masters. Now, with a week off under his belt, the Englishman is back on tour and a heavy favorite to win the Welsh Open.
