The countdown to the FIVB Club World Championship 2024 is almost complete. This year’s edition will feature eight of the world’s top volleyball clubs competing for glory in Uberlandia, Brazil. This tournament marks the 19th edition of the Men’s Club World Championship. It kicks off on December 10 with the group stage and concludes with the finals on December 15. Italy, Brazil, and Iran each have dual representation in this year’s tournament. European silver medalist Jastrzebski Wegiel withdrew due to financial and logistical challenges, with Cucine Lube Civitanova stepping in as their replacement.

This year’s event will mark the 19th edition of the tournament since its inaugural season in 1989. Trentino Volley is the most successful club in the competition, with five gold medals. Sada Cruzeiro closely follows them with four gold medals. Italian teams hold the highest number of appearances in the competition and the highest number of tournament wins. They’ve participated in all editions of the competition except in 2015, and they have won a total of 11 titles.

The no 2 ranked team in men’s club volleyball make their way to this contest as our top pick to win the event. As the most successful team in this competition, they always have an edge over others. The current European Champions is currently second in SuperLega with 27 points after securing 9 wins and two losses. Trentino last won this title in 2018 and will be hungry to get a sixth title this weekend. With the collection of teams at this event, they stand a strong chance of achieving their ambitions.
South American champions Cruzeiro are the second-best side in this event based on their current rankings. So far, they have won the Mineiro Championship and Brazilian Supercup this year. They will now look to push for their third title on home soil this week. They are in fine form, securing wins in all their games since October. If they can transfer that form to this competition, they will emerge as champions. They also have the added advantage of playing on home soil, which should work in their favor.
Cucine enters this contest as the Wild Card pick. They were not invited initially, but they made an appearance due to the absence of Jastrzebski Wegiel in this contest. In terms of current performances, Lube is having a fairly good season. They are third in the SuperLega with 23 points. They have won seven games, losing four times. If Lube can clean up their act and secure wins against the top sides in this contest, they stand a huge chance of winning this title.
Argentine side Ciudad Voley secured their slot at this tournament by finishing as the runners-up at the South American championships. In terms of their wins, this club is the current holder of the Argentine Supercup. Also, they are currently second in Liga Argentina with 14 points after five wins and one loss. Given their qualities, Ciudad will look to grab their first Club World Championship on Sunday. However, they must first navigate a difficult group that features Trentino Volley and Sada Cruzeiro Volei.
The 2024 Asian Champions Foolad rounds out the top of our top five contenders to win this event. The Iranian team is currently third in its domestic Super League with 24 points from 12 games. They have won seven and lost five of those fixtures. Compared to other teams in this top five, Foolad is relatively low. However, they have the potential to spring a surprise and grab their first-ever World Championship win. The Brazilian side enters the competition with high expectations as they want to surprise everyone on the home ground. Praia is hosting the event and should show all the power in the opening game to show that they aren’t the lucky ones aside two best CSV teams in the face of Sada Cruzeiro and Ciudad. They lost only one game in November in the Brazil Superliga and now easily keep the place in the leading group after nine rounds.
Al Ahly is also on a good trajectory in November, but the Egypt League is a way easier tournament. Despite having overall good results and winning CAVB 2024, the Cairo club has to lose this game without any chances. We expect the hosting side to cover a 2.5 spread for this game and close the game 3-0, which is a regular result in such contests.

Both sides are now in third place in the national leagues, and there are no doubts that the Italian SuperLega is a tougher competition. Despite there is no doubt that Lube Civitanova has to clinch the victory here, we believe Sirjan has to take one set, at least. They have won the AVC 2024, which is not an easy tournament, while the Iranian Super League is on the rise.
