Understanding the US Open Grand Slam Tennis Tournament

A little context before getting into the latest 2024 tennis US Open odds. The US Open is a Grand Slam, which means that it is as big as a tennis event gets. The men’s and women’s singles events will be played with 128-player draws, meaning the 2024 champion has to win seven consecutive matches to prevail.

US Open History & Court Specifics

There are a few factors that will impact our 2024 ATP US Open predictions and WTA US Open 2024 betting picks alike. First, the conditions this year. The US Open is a hard-court tournament, which naturally means it is a fast-bouncing surface. However, the balls this year are also lighter, a reversion to those used in 2021. This will favor players like Iga Swiatek.

The US Open is notorious for being the most unpredictable Grand Slam of the season. At this stage of the tennis calendar, players have wear and tear, making injury more of a factor. There’s a reason that no male player has defended their title in New York since 2008–it ain’t easy to do! So expect plenty of upsets and breakout performances this fortnight.

It is neck and neck at the top of the 2024 tennis US Open odds. Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, and Jannik Sinner have been jostling for position at the top of the betting odds for the past month, with each holding the top spot at various stages pre-tournament. Now that the draw is out and the latest on each player’s health is known, the market has settled with Alcaraz slightly in front. He holds the favorite tag at 3.00 (2/1), with Djokovic a hair’s breadth behind him at 3.10 (21/10) and Sinner not far off either at 4.00 (3/1).

Those who want to bet on 2024 US Open tennis but not take one of the top three lines of betting have a few other options. Alexander Zverev, finalist here in 2020, is fourth at 8.50 (15/2), while 2021 champion Daniil Medvedev pays a handsome 17.00 (16/1) to win in New York.

    Men’s US Open 2024 Predictions

Now, what you’ve all been waiting for: our free tips for the 2024 US Open Championships. Here are the best bets to make in New York over the next fortnight:

Carlos Alcaraz to Win Outright @ 3.10 (21/10)

It is very, very tough to pick between the top three favorites in the men’s draw this year. A strong argument can be made for each, as summarized below:

    • Alcaraz – won the past two Grand Slams, won the US Open in 2022
    • Sinner – world No 1, best ATP player for most of 2024, won the Australian Open
    • Djokovic – 24-time Grand Slam champion, just won Olympic gold, defending champion

The reason Alcaraz is our pick to win the US Open is less because the argument for him to win is more compelling and more because of the arguments against his main rivals.

Sinner is coming off a tumultuous week where it was revealed that he tested positive for a banned substance twice earlier in the year. While he was cleared of any wrongdoing, the Italian has received a lot of heat for how the affair was handled – essentially a double standard compared to others on the Tour. This will be weighing heavily on his mind, and with some of the crowd likely to be against him, we just have no idea how he will respond in New York.

Djokovic played brilliantly to win Olympic gold, but outside of that, he’s been very, very poor in 2024. We’re talking about the worst season he’s had since he was a teenager. With him ticking off what was essentially the last thing for him to achieve in tennis by winning Olympic gold, again, we just have no idea how he’s going to respond. Is his tank empty after his gargantuan effort in Paris? Or is he fired up? It feels like a coin toss.

As a result, Alcaraz feels like the prudent pick. After all, he is pretty good at winning these Grand Slam things.

High Odds Winner Pick – Matteo Berrettini @ 81.00 (80/1)

Those who want to bet on 2024 US Open tennis and receive a much higher return may want to look at Matteo Berrettini. The Italian thrives in New York, and is a far better chance of winning than his odds of 81.00 (80/1) indicate.

The case for Berrettini is simple:

    1. He has played 10 tournaments in 2024, making five finals and winning three titles
    2. He has made a semi-final and two quarter-finals in New York since 2019
    3. He’s a former Grand Slam finalist

Simply put, he’s got the form and the experience – what’s not to love?

The women’s US Open odds are much more open than in the men’s event. Five women sit under 12.00 (11/1), with Aryna Sabalenka leading the betting at 3.10 (21/10). Iga Swiatek is right behind her on 4.50 (7/2) before a moderate gap back to the rest of the pack.

Coco Gauff at 9.50 (17/2), Elena Rybakina at 10.00 (9/1), and Jessica Pegula at 12.00 (11/1) round out the betting odds for our US Open 2024 predictions.

Leading our tennis 2024 US Open betting tips is second seed Aryna Sabalenka. The Belarusian wasn’t looking too good just a few months ago, missing Wimbledon with a rotator cuff injury and opting out of the Olympics as well.

She then hit the North American hardcourt swing early and also took some underwhelming losses. However, as of the last few weeks, she has rocketed back into form. Straight-set demolition jobs of Iga Swiatek and Jessica Pegula saw her win the title at the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati – an event that plays similarly to New York.

Sabalenka has won the Australian Open twice, the Tour’s only other hard-court major. With the kind of form she’s in, picking her to win here is the logical choice: she literally just destroyed her main competition a week or two ago.

High Odds Winner Pick – Mirra Andreeva @ 19.00 (18/1)

For those who can’t stomach a bet on Sabalenka, consider teenager Mirra Andreeva instead. The WTA Tour has a strong track record of teenagers winning Grand Slams, and Andreeva has Grand Slam champion written all over her.

Remember that Sabalenka lady? Yeah, Andreeva beat her at the French Open this year. She’s got a brilliant record against top 10 players and has already made a major quarter-final. The Russian just keeps going from strength to strength and is an excellent high-odds bet at 19.00 (18/1).

The action starts on Monday in New York, so get your bets in quick!
