Understanding Rugby Sevens 2024 Dubai

Dubai Sevens is the first stop in the 2024/25 Rugby Sevens calendar that leads all the way to the Rugby SVNS World Championship in Los Angeles in May. The top two teams from each pool will qualify directly to the quarterfinals. The remaining sides go through playoffs, and the last two teams standing complete the quarter-final lineup.

From there the tournament progresses as a knockout competition and the last two teams fight in the final for the Dubai Rugby Sevens trophy. Previously, it used to be a 16-team tournament, but from last season, the number of teams has been decreased to 12.

Here are the participants of the Dubai SVNS 2024:

Team Expected Season Finish
Argentina 2
Fiji 3
Ireland 7
Spain 10
New Zealand 1
France 6
USA 8
Kenya 11
South Africa 4
Australia 5
Great Britain 9
Uruguay 12

Past Winners of the Dubai SVNS

  • 2023 – South Africa 12-7 Argentina
  • 2022 – South Africa 21-5 Ireland
  • 2021 – South Africa 10-7 Australia
  • 2021 – South Africa 42-7 USA
  • 2019 – South Africa 15-0 New Zealand

Since the tournament began in 1999, South Africa has won it 11 times. The Boks are currently on a five-tournament winning streak, and Rugby Sevens 2025 predictions say they will return as strong contenders once again. New Zealand have won the competition six times. England won four, Fiji won two, and Samoa, who got relegated last year, won one Dubai SVNS title in the past.

Argentina 7s @ 4.33 (10/3)

Argentina will walk into the tournament as the hot favorites, as the 2024 Dubai Rugby Sevens odds show. Los Pumas lost the grand final to France last time around and also sacrificed their Olympic gold dream against the same opposition. Santiago Gómez Cora’s men will be desperate to settle the score this time.

New Zealand 7s @ 4.50 (7/2)

Legal betting sites in UAE are considering New Zealand as the second favorite to win the 2024-25 Sevens series. The All Blacks have won the competition a record 14 times. They finished third in the regular 23/24 campaign and fifth in the Paris Olympics. Regardless, New Zealand will feature prominently in 2024 Dubai 7s predictions.

South Africa 7s @ 5.00 (4/1)

South Africa are the current world champion in the 15-man format, and they have also won the Olympic bronze medal in the 7s version of the game. The Boks will set their sights higher this season and will look to start strong in Dubai. With many world-class names in their squad, backing South Africa for success won’t be one of the most outrageous 2024 rugby 7s DXB betting tips by any means.

Fiji 7s @ 6.50 (11/2)

Fiji will fly to Dubai hoping to keep the momentum going following a memorable Olympics campaign. Their Sevens Championship run ended in the semis last season and in the Olympics, they went on an incredible run before losing to hosts France in the final. Most tipsters would rate the Flying Fijians quite high in their Dubai rugby 7s predictions 2024.

France 7s @ 6.50 (11/2)

Bookmakers in the UAE are placing France below the likes of Argentina, New Zealand, and South Africa in their pre-tournament assessments. The absence of star man Antoine Dupont, who has decided to represent Les Bleus in the 15-man format, has dealt a huge blow to their title ambitions. France will be a team to watch in Dubai, regardless.

Osea Kolinisau has assembled an excellent team that has taken the Rugby SVNS scene by storm this year. They have lost only twice in 2024 and in both cases, they were bettered by France. A battle-hardened Fiji seems to be the perfect team to back in our Rugby Sevens 2025 predictions.

Fiji boasts a well-balanced squad, blending youthful talent with seasoned veterans, and under the guidance of Kolinisau, they’ve molded into a formidable unit. Grouped alongside the USA, New Zealand, and Spain—teams they’ve triumphed over in recent encounters—Fiji looks set for a flying start, with every chance of maintaining their momentum all the way to the finish.

Fiji 7s share Pool C with New Zealand, the USA, and Spain. On paper, the All Blacks will be their biggest rival for the top spot. 2024 Dubai Rugby Sevens odds show that New Zealand are the favorites to finish atop Pool C, but we believe Fiji have the momentum in their side to beat their neighbors to the top spot.
