Rugby 2023–24 Dubai SVNS Predictions & Betting Tips

The Sevens circuit has undergone a major facelift ahead of the upcoming season, and this weekend, fans get to witness the first of it in Dubai. With a new format, fewer teams, and Olympic qualification on the line, the Dubai Sevens will get the 2023-24 SVNS season underway in style. Read on for our rugby 7s 2023-24 betting tips.

2023 SVNS Dubai: Event Details

With New Zealand coming into this season as reigning champions, they’ll be the team to beat in Dubai. However, South Africa will have something to say about that, as they’ve traditionally enjoyed much success at this tournament over the years. Throw in a Fiji team desperate to improve and an Argentinian side that will be eager to show last year wasn’t a one-off, and this weekend should bring some excellent action.

We break down the Dubai 2023 Rugby Sevens odds ahead of the inaugural event of the season and outline the best 2023 Emirates Dubai 7s predictions to make this weekend.

Unsurprisingly, given their status as defending champions from last season, New Zealand head into Dubai as favorites to win. The Kiwis pay 3.25 (9/4) to take out the mini-tournament, marginally ahead of the 2022 Dubai champions South Africa, who are at 4.33 (10/3).

Despite Fiji not winning a single event last season, the Pacific Islanders are right in the mix here as well at 5.00 (4/1). The bookies’ odds drop off somewhat for Argentina however, who are at 7.50 (13/2), before Australia round out the top five betting favorites at 8.50 (15/2). So why not use a betting exchange.

Understanding the Rugby 7s UAE 2023

The HSBC World Sevens Series has undergone some significant changes since last season, with four teams dropping off the roster. This means a new format – three pools instead of four, and quarter-final qualification coming down to games won in some instances – as well as new locations and a fresh final event to determine the series winner in 2024.

All this to say, the Dubai Sevens remains the same. It’s an event dominated by South Africa, and the past five tournaments indicate it clearly:

  • 2018 – New Zealand beat the United States
  • 2019 – South Africa beat New Zealand
  • 2021 (I) – South Africa beat United States
  • 2021 (II) – South Africa beat Australia
  • 2022 – South Africa beat Ireland

With such dominance from the Blitzboks in this event over recent years, can South Africa begin the new season strong with another win in Dubai? Read on to find out with our rugby 7s DXB 2023 predictions.

Rugby 7s Dubai 2023 Predictions

We’ve broken down the best rugby union odds and done the hard work to find the top Rugby 7s 2023-24 betting tips this weekend. Here are our three expert rugby DXB predictions 2023:

This time last year, South Africa won the Dubai Sevens. Turns out, that was the peak of their season, as the side would fail to win another event, finishing seventh overall in the season standings. While it may seem like a reach for the Blitzboks to bounce back so quickly from such a poor season in 2023, there’s a strong argument for them doing so this weekend.

South Africa have won seven of the past nine Dubai Sevens tournaments, including the last four in a row. There’s something about the location, the climate, the timing in the season that just gels with this team. With a few new additions to their squad this year, expect the Blitzbokke to put in a strong performance and continue their proud record.

For those who can’t quite stomach South Africa going all the way in Dubai, this is a slightly more conservative bet (or an excellent addition for those also backing South Africa to win). The Blitzbokke are in the same pool as New Zealand, who have been notoriously slow starters in recent years.

Last season, New Zealand were by far the most dominant team, winning five of the final seven events in the calendar. However, they failed to win any of the first four tournaments, including in Dubai, where they bowed out in the semi-finals. Expect a similarly rusty start from them this weekend, with South Africa topping Pool A instead.

High-Odds Outright Winner – Argentina @ 7.50 (13/2)

For those looking to garner some slightly higher returns on their wager this weekend, Argentina winning the Dubai Sevens is a great bet. With a payout of 7.50 (13/2), this is a strong bet, considering Argentina won the final tournament of last season earlier this year.

Overall, in the 2022-23 season, Argentina won three events and finished second behind New Zealand. They’ve only strengthened in the off-season by adding some World Cup players, and it’s not at all inconceivable that they would continue this season the way they left off, by winning in Dubai.

All eyes are on Dubai this weekend as the newly revamped HSBC SVNS series kicks off in the United Arab Emirates, bringing a new season for rugby 7s tips lovers. A new format is on display, but our pro bet enthusiasts say it will be the same result as we’re used to seeing at this tournament, with South Africa starting the season strong and defending their title. Expect a strong challenge from Argentina, however, who could be a good dark horse bet in Dubai.
