Beyond these two, the odds drop off significantly, with the third favorites Wanderley and Stein paying 10.00 (9/10), ahead of Younousse and Tijan, and Partain and Benesh, who are joint fourth favorites on 11.00 (10/1) to win.

Men’s Beach Volleyball World Championships History & Format

With 48 pairs vying for glory in the men’s competition, there will be plenty of excellent beach volleyball action over the coming 10 days. The tournament is split into two main phases. First, teams are divided into 12 pools of four teams. Each team will play the other three in their group.

From here, the top two teams from each group will advance, as will the four best third-placed teams. The remaining eight third-placed teams will head to the lucky loser round, where they’ll play four matches to determine which four advance. Then, a 32-team bracket will unfold in single elimination style, narrowing its way down to the two medal matches on the final day.

Anders Mol and Christian Sorum are the top-ranked team in men’s beach volleyball right now, and for a good reason. Not only are the pair defending champions at the Men’s Beach Volleyball World Championships, having claimed the title in Rome 2022 as well, but they are also reigning Olympic gold medalists, coming out on top in Tokyo. Simply put, this pair knows how to win when it matters, and they’ve gone on record saying that a stated goal of theirs is to become the first male team to defend a World Championship title in Mexico.

The fact that their last two outings, at the BPT Elite 16 Hamburg and CEV European Championships Vienna, were unfruitful endeavors will serve to strengthen their motivation heading into this event. With five titles in the season prior to this, the Norwegians are perfectly placed to defend their crown.

If you simply can’t see the dominant pair of Mol and Sorum winning, then your money has got to go on the higher odds wager of Ahman and Hellvig. The Swedish pair may not have quite the same track record as Mol and Sorum, but they have one thing that the Norwegians don’t – recent results.

Ahman and Hellvig have won both of their last two events and while they only have three wins in the year preceding this, it’s a promising sign for them to be coming to Mexico with such momentum. If anyone can knock off Mol and Sorum, it’s these two, and Swedish bookies offer pretty enticing odds for local punters.

Beach volleyball action heads to Mexico for 10 days of action this Friday, with the 2023 Men’s Beach Volleyball World Championships taking place. While 48 teams are all looking to stake their claim at the title, we say it will be a repeat of the Rome tournament in Tlaxcala, with Norwegian’s Mol and Sorum defending their title and going on to do something the sport has never seen before.
