Premier League 2023 Summer Transfer Window [Expert Analysis]

Premier League Summer Transfer Window Expert Analysis

Premier League clubs only have a few more days to complete their transfer business before the window closes on Friday 1 September.

Although teams usually aim to get everything wrapped up before the start of the season, we can expect plenty more deals to be done in the coming days.

Which players could still secure moves before the deadline? We have picked out some possible transfers and looked at the possibility of each of them going through.

Player Interested Club Transfer Odds Bookmaker
Nicolo Barella Liverpool 6/1 SkyBet
Romelu Lukaku Roma 1/10 SkyBet
Harry Maguire West Ham United 4/1 BetVictor
Brennan Johnson Tottenham Hotspur Evens BetVictor
Lautaro Martinez Chelsea 6/1 SkyBet

Nicolo Barella to Liverpool (6/1)

Other Interested Clubs

  • Newcastle United: 8/1 (SkyBet)
  • Manchester City: 10/1 (Paddy Power)
  • PSG: 12/1 (Betfair)

Liverpool could do with another midfielder before the deadline and Nicolo Barella is one player who has been linked with a switch to Anfield. Newcastle United and Manchester City are also thought to be keeping an eye on him.

Inter will not want to sell Barella at this late stage of the window, though, and their stance could scupper Liverpool’s hopes of landing the Italian.

Romelu Lukaku to Roma (1/10)

Other Interested Clubs

  • Any Saudi Pro League Team: 12/1 (SkyBet)
  • Aston Villa: 25/1 (SkyBet)
  • Juventus: 25/1 (SkyBet)

Chelsea are ready to sanction Romelu Lukaku’s departure this summer. They initially preferred a permanent sale but have now been persuaded to let the Belgium international leave on loan.

Roma are at the front of the queue to sign the striker, who will therefore be leaving the Premier League and returning to Serie A.

Harry Maguire to West Ham United (4/1)

Positions Last Season

  • Tottenham Hotspur: 6/1 (Parimatch)
  • Newcastle United: 16/1 (BetVictor)
  • Aston Villa: 25/1 (Parimatch)

Harry Maguire’s proposed move to West Ham fell through earlier in the window, but the deal could yet be revived. David Moyes wants another centre-back and the Scot tends to prefer players with Premier League experience.

Tottenham have also been sniffing around Maguire in recent months, but West Ham remain in pole position to sign the out-of-favour Manchester United defender.

Brennan Johnson to Tottenham Hotspur (Evens)

Other Interested Clubs

  • Chelsea: 4/1 (BetVictor)
  • West Ham United: 12/1 (BetVictor)
  • Brentford: 20/1 (BetVictor)

Brentford had a bid for Brennan Johnson turned down earlier in the window and the Nottingham Forest forward has now emerged as a target for clubs higher up the food chain.

Chelsea have been linked with the Wales international but Tottenham is now the likeliest destination as Ange Postecoglou looks to bolster his options in attack.

Lautaro Martinez to Chelsea (6/1)

Other Interested Clubs

  • Real Madrid: 6/1 (SkyBet)
  • Tottenham Hotspur: 16/1 (SkyBet)
  • Manchester United: 20/1 (SkyBet)

Inter will not want to lose Lautaro Martinez at this late stage of the summer market, but a huge bid from Chelsea could force their hand.

The Blues have spent big again this summer but the feeling is that they still need another attacker. Martinez would be an excellent choice, but Real Madrid are in the mix too.
